Spinach was formed in 1994 and quickly became one of the must-sees, on the LA club Circuit; often sharing the stage with the big blue missiles - Steel James (co-writer with Stone Temple Pilot), Polar Bear (ex: Janes Addictions bass player), Amber sea (electric sky church), The Capsules, Miss Galaxy, The flys, Gwen mars, Izzy the pusher, 4 Star Mary, Moon pools and Caterpillars, Issa Jones, Mother Tongue, The Enginear, Southpaw Operator, Ursa Minor, Drag Beat, La Gente del Pueblo, Convertible, twenty cents crush and many many more!
At the time Spinach was a breath of fresh air on the L.A scene. Coming out with a very different approach than the regular power trio or four-piece band that had become normality. Layers of electronic music, sequencing and sampling techniques, the addition of a DJ’ Turntablist and various guest musicians added character, soundscapes and colourful arrangements to the sound of Spinach giving it an immediate edge and popularity. The musical climate rapidly changed as many bands jumped on the bandwagon and introduced similar fashion. The audience was very responsive to the new “Techrock” sound!
Spinach was then under a management deal and released a CD single on “Stone lizard record”. Regularly played on KROQ at Zeke’s (backyard) show, on KXLU and a few other college radios promoting our shows and tour dates In San Fransisco Seattle and New York…
In 1999 An English Label
released our single which was played All over England’s Radio stations and clubs and generated great reviews.
Ascap took an interest in Spinach and Invited our band to play under their name at the “C.M.J” (Music marathon/Music fest & Film Fest in New York)
CMJ's Music Marathon & Film Festival is the end-all-be-all of upcoming musicians and bands—and is rapidly becoming the same for film—a five day, five night fall celebration with over 1,200 artists and 120,000 fans crowding 75 of the city's greatest nightclubs and theaters, centered around NYU's campus. It's New York's largest music festival, and a continued threat to Austin's SXSW Festival's dominance of the emerging music market.
